Padma Shri Nirmal Rishi Graces Baisakhi Mela at Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd

Under the esteemed patronage of Shri Guru Hargobind Ujagar Hari Trust and the able guidance
of Principal Dr. Satinder Kaur, the Commerce and Management Departments of Khalsa College
for Women, Sidhwan Khurd successfully organized a grand and colorful Baisakhi Mela on April
17, 2026. On the third day of the ongoing Baisakhi celebrations, the festivities continued with
great fervour and enthusiasm. Padma Shri Nirmal Rishi, renowned theatre artiste and Punjabi
film actress, graced the occasion as Chief Guest accompanied by Advocate Moon Jhanji. Floral
welcome was accorded to the dignitaries. The function was further dignified by the gracious
presence of the Honourable manager of the Trust, S. Pradeep Singh. Other distinguished guests
included Mrs. Daljit Kaur, Principal, Sikh Girls Senior Secondary School; Dr. Amandeep Kaur,
Principal, GHG Harparkash College of Education; Ms. Sandeep Kaur, Principal, GHG Public
School and Dr. Jaswinder Kaur, Vice Principal, GHG Institute of Law, Sidhwan Khurd. The
event commenced with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting by the Chief Guest, marking the formal
inauguration of the mela. A special exhibition showcasing rich Sikh history was also displayed,
reflecting the cultural and spiritual essence of Baisakhi. A wide variety of business fete stalls set
up by students added vibrancy to the mela. These included stalls of golgappe, jewellery, lassi,
lemon soda, mehndi, cakes, nail art, suits, bhel puri, masala corn, tattoo making and many
more. A game zone and a book stall were set up, offering both entertainment and learning
opportunities. A beautifully decorated selfie point attracted visitors. Fun rides further enhanced
the festive atmosphere. A colourful cultural function comprising of speeches, dances, songs,
bhand and folk art giddha enlivened the audience. A captivating Gatka performance was
presented, showcasing the rich martial tradition and valor of Sikh heritage. Ms. Nirmal Rishi
inspired the students to stay connected with their roots and uphold moral values in life. She
emphasized the importance of humility, respect for elders and self-discipline. She also
encouraged students to believe in themselves and work hard with dedication to achieve success.
Garima Sharma and Robalpreet Kaur clinched the “Shoukan Mele Di” title. Lottery draw wad
held on the occasion, which was a huge attraction and the winners were elated. Principal Dr.
Satinder Kaur appreciated the efforts of staff and students for organizing the mela successfully
and highlighted the importance of such events in promoting cultural heritage and
entrepreneurial skills among students. The stage proceedings were conducted by Prof.
Harwinder Kaur in a graceful and organized manner. A memento was presented to the Chief
Guest as a token of respect and gratitude. The programme concluded on a joyful note, leaving
behind cherished memories of celebration and togetherness.
