Martyrdom Day of Shaheed Bhagat Singh observed at Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd.


Social Sciences Forum, Music department and NSS Units of Khalsa College for
Women, Sidhwan Khurd observed the Martyrdom Day of the great revolutionary
and freedom fighter Shaheed Bhagat Singh with immense patriotic fervour and
reverence. S. Satinder Pal Singh Sidhwan , pioneer, producer and director of
Toronto based radio channel ' Punjabi Lehran' graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
He is a native of Sidhwan Khurd village and a renowned Kavishar. His better half
Mrs. Kuldeep Kaur who is alumnae of the college was the special invitee. The
Chief Guest was accorded a green welcome with a sapling. The function
commenced with Recital of the holy shabad . Principal, Dr. Satinder Kaur delivered
the formal welcome address. Various activities were conducted to mark the
occasion. A documentary on the life, sacrifice and contemporary significance of
Bhagat Singh was screened which not only acquainted the audience to his
contribution but also inspired them to serve their country. Students presented
speeches, group song, dance and poems dedicated to the day. S. Satinder Pal
Singh Sidhwan paid homage to the visionary Founders and said that the sapling of
Women Empowerment planted by them has now reached fruition. Through
anecdotes and fables he conveyed the legacy of Bhagat Singh and said that the
people who forget their culture, heritage and language erase their own identities.
He congratulated the students as they were studying in a premier institution
which was instrumental in giving International fame to his dhadi jathha as the
alumnae of the college are settled all over the world. He praised the endeavour of
commemorating the historic day. Prof. Karamdeep Kaur conducted the
proceedings of the programme effectively. Dr. Navdip Kaur, Vice Principal of the
institution proposed the formal vote of thanks. The Chief Guest was felicitated
with a lohi and memento. The event concluded with the singing of the National
Anthem.
